The saxophone also referred to as the sax is apart of the woodwind family and it's over 150 years old. It was invented by Antoine-Joseph (Adolphe) Sax which is where the iconic name come from. Patented on March 20, 1846. He was a highly skilled instrument maker and musician. who went on to also invent the Saxotromba, Adolphe Sax, Saxhorn and the Saxtuba.
